“Wisdom is a gift from a generous God, and every word He speaks is full of revelation and becomes a fountain of understanding within you. For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom make accessible to His godly lovers. He becomes your personal bodyguard as you follow His ways, protecting and guarding you as you choose what is right. Then you will discover all that is just, proper, and fair, and be empowered to make the right decisions as you walk into your destiny.” Proverbs 2:7-9 TPT
When my children were young, I would tell them that God’s rules are our umbrella of protection. If we follow God’s rules, then He covers us. But if we step out from underneath His umbrella of protection, then we make ourselves vulnerable.
These verses from Proverbs are even better imagery. When we follow God’s ways, He becomes our Personal Bodyguard. He is protecting and guarding us as we choose what is right.
I am a visual person. When I talk about an umbrella of protection, I actually see an over-sized umbrella. I see myself huddled under it with the others who follow after God. I love the imagery of the Personal Bodyguard because I actually see God, Himself, standing right next to me! His impressive size intimidates the enemy and brings me comfort. His nearness and vigilance fills me with security. I am warmed by the intimacy of the image of my Personal Bodyguard protecting me and guarding me.
Of course, it is possible to walk away from your personal bodyguard . . . and find yourself in a dangerous situation. That is what sin is, particularly sexual sins. Sinning is stepping away from His ways . . . and His protection. In stepping away from our Personal Bodyguard, we have given the enemy an opportunity to move in. First Peter 5:8 says that the enemy is prowling around looking for just such opportunities.
Praise God for Jesus Christ and the way of repentance! No matter how far we have strayed from our Personal Bodyguard, we can always turn around (repent) and run back to Him!
Thank You, Heavenly Father, that You are my Personal Bodyguard! You are protecting me and guarding me because I follow Your ways. Thank You, Father, for access to Your hidden storehouse of wisdom because I love You and serve You. Thank You for Your generous gift of wisdom, and the fountain of understanding that flows within me!
