“Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more that twelve legions of angels?” Matt.26:53 NASB
Apparently there are whole armies of war-faring angels. I have read over Jesus’ reference to “twelve legions of angels” probably hundreds of times without wondering why. Why does heaven have armies?
Heaven doesn’t need defending. Who can even reach the heavens, let alone lead an army there? No one is going to mount an attack against heaven. So what are the angel armies for?
The Lord of Hosts has armies of angels to defend and protect US! Heaven needs no protection. But we sure do! The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he might devour. Even if he cannot devour us, he may entice others to sin against us. Or he may feed us lies that lead us down a self-destructive path.
But the God of angel armies is ready to defend and protect us! Jesus encouraged us to pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send workers. In the same way, we can pray to the God of Hosts to send armies! Why not?! He has plenty in reserve!
So I do pray, Lord of Hosts, send Your angels to protect my family. Send Your armies to defend and protect Your church, especially the persecuted and imprisoned ones. Send legions of angels to defend and protect this nation from the plans and schemes of the enemy. AMEN!!
