Who lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters [above the firmament], Who makes the clouds His chariot, Who walks on the wings of the wind, Psalm 104:3 Amplified
I read this verse in Psalms and wondered if the makers of the first telescope thought they would see the throne of God above the firmament. Were they disappointed to find only stars? No matter how large a telescope they build, they will not see God.
God is “seen” with the eyes of the heart. He reveals deep and intimate knowledge of Himself to those who have given Him their hearts.
[I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]. 18 And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (God’s people), 19 and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength 20 which He produced in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, Ephesians 1:17-19 Amplified
All the mysteries of the universe are hidden in God. He expects us to seek answers from Him (Proverbs 25:2). If we do, God promises to flood our hearts with His light.
God expands our understanding of the hope of our calling. Hope speaks of our future with Him. As we walk through the difficulties of this life, God will continually open our spiritual eyes to our future hope.
Are you struggling today? Close your eyes and fix your heart on Him. Allow Him to reveal His love for you and bathe you in the light of His glory. The tribulations of this life fade in comparison to our glorious future with Him.
We do not grasp how precious we are to God. He states that we are His “glorious inheritance.” Jesus left the perfection of heaven and shed His supernatural powers to die on a cross to win our hearts. Our loving, worshipping hearts are His reward for all His anguish. We are Jesus’ “glorious inheritance!” I still shake my head at why He would want us (maybe I shouldn’t include you here). I need the Lord to expand my vision.
Recently, I watched a worship video with an older gentleman playing the piano and a younger woman singing. They had similar facial features; I wondered if they were father and daughter. The song ended, he looked at her, and I knew. His slight smile and radiant eyes spoke volumes of love and tenderness. God opened the eyes of my heart to realize that’s the way He looks at me.
Press in, Beloved. Allow God to continually reveal how precious you are to Him.
God also wants to radiate His immeasurable and unlimited power in our lives. He demonstrated the surpassing greatness of His power by raising Jesus from the dead and seating Him in heaven. God exercises His power in us by making us new creations and infusing us with His power. He exercises His power for us by delivering us from all the schemes of the devil. If God is for us, who can be against us?
Father, we open the eyes of our hearts to Your revelation. Continually enlarge our hearts to receive Your love and power, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
