Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Serve the Lord with jubilation; Come before Him with rejoicing. 3 Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courtyards with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. 5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His faithfulness is to all generations. Psalm 100 NASB
Do you long for God’s presence, but don’t know how to get there? Thankfulness is the key.
Thankfulness is the door (gate) that gives us access to God’s courtyard. Once we are in the house of God, we commune with God in praise and worship.
The world’s depravity stems from the root of unthankfulness (Rom. 1:21). The ungrateful one stands outside God’s gate, and they keep company with the unholy, unloving and irreconcilable (2 Tim. 3:1). You and I, on the other hand, have access to the throne room of heaven simply by putting thankfulness on our lips.
Are you struggling this Thanksgiving to find thankfulness? Psalm 100 comes to your rescue with three reasons to thank God:
1) The Lord is good. Our God is not vengeful or capricious. God’s character is goodness itself. He longs to bring joy and blessing to everyone and everything He creates. God turns even our worse problems into good for us (Rom. 8:28). That is His nature.
2) His mercy is everlasting. Mercy speaks of loyal love. His mercies never cease; they are new every morning (Lam. 3:22). Plumb the depths, and you will not find the bottom of it. Span the breadth of His mercy, and you will not find the length of it. God extends mercy even to those who are ungrateful and evil (Luke 6:35).
3) His faithfulness is to all generations. The truth of God endures to all generations - no matter who gets elected or how godless the culture. God’s word is still available to all who reach for Him. God is faithful to all generations. Now, that is something to be thankful for.
