“. .. So it is with God. His thoughts and secrets are only fully understood by His Spirit, the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:11 TPT
This verse inspired in me a deeper revelation of the trinity of God, and a beautiful picture of the hope of our salvation.
Here are my thoughts . . .
God created us with a body, a soul, and a spirit because He made us in His image. God also has a body, a soul, and a spirit. God’s body is Jesus, and God’s Spirit is the Holy Spirit. God Himself is the soul of God. That is why God can be Creator and Father and King, etc. all rolled into one.
The parallel would be if I gave each of my three components a different name. Let’s say that I named my body “Cindy” and my spirit “Spirit Light.” I’ll select for my soul the name of “All of Me.” In my case, this is just an academic exercise because there is no way my component parts can be separated from the others. All three are intricately intertwined. Sickness and disease in the body, wears on the soul and spirit as well. Emotional wounds to the soul impact the body and spirit too.
God, on the other hand, has the ability to separate His body, soul and spirit. God has put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, a guarantee of what is to come (1 Cor. 1:22). So, God has placed His Spirit into millions of believers, yet He is not lacking any of His Spirit in Himself. How can He do that?! Because He is God.
Somehow God separated His soul and Spirit from His body, who is named Jesus. Our earthly Jesus was fully God and fully man. How God did that is a mystery to me. Why God did that is fully explained in His Word. God came to earth in the body of Jesus to die and be raised from the dead as the firstfruits of all those who have died (1 Cor. 15:20). Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). God’s body – Jesus - died and was raised to new life as a foreshadowing of our future death and resurrection.
This is a beautiful picture of the hope of our salvation. We too will be raised from the dead into new life. When our body dies, our whole being – body, soul, and spirit – will be redeemed and reunited with our God/King/Creator/Father/Beloved. Death really is a release into a beautiful new life! Come, Lord Jesus, Come!
