He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. Revelation 1:16
Stacy came to our prayer ministry in a near panic due to harassing spirits. They lied to her mind and attacked her physical body. Even sleep provided no respite from the relentless oppression. She felt powerless.
Her sword is not in her hand; it is in her mouth. The spiritual armor God has given us enables us to stand against the spiritual forces of wickedness (Eph. 6:10-17). But how do we advance? How do we take back ground that’s been conceded to the enemy?
I pose this question because Stacy needs to take back some ground. Early abuse and trauma had opened a door. The enemy used that open door to steal her youth and innocence. She kicked the door open wider when she got involved with the occult; she conceded ground to the enemy. How can she get it back? How does she push back the dark forces overwhelming her?
The only offensive weapon she needs is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph. 6:18). The Spirit of God speaking the Word of God through her mouth brings the victory.
As a new believer, Stacy hadn’t read the Bible. The Spirit could not bring scriptures to her remembrance to combat the lies because the Word was not in her. Following Jesus’ example in Matthew 4, we gave her passages to declare over herself, out loud. Now, she has a sword in her mouth!
Because Stacy hadn’t read the Word, she didn’t know that Jesus gave us authority to cast out demons (Mark 16:17). When she commanded the demons to leave, they didn’t go because she hadn’t used Jesus’ authority. With His name on her tongue, now her sword commands attention.
In her weakness, Stacy didn’t know how to pray as she ought. However, the Holy Spirit knows all things and interceded on her behalf in harmony with God’s will (Rom. 8:26-27). Jesus has given us the ability to speak in new tongues as a weapon of spiritual warfare. When the Holy Spirit within Stacy prays the will of God for her life, through her own mouth, look out enemy! She has a powerful sword in her mouth.
God also uses our mouths as a sword as we worship. The enemy and his minions flee when they hear praise God. However, God’s angels lean in to listen as we praise and worship Him. In the Old Testament, battles were averted and victories won simply by praising God. Yes, the tongue has the power of life and death (Prov. 18:21).
Are you concerned about Stacy? Don’t be. She is armed for battle. The sword in her mouth equips her victory. Praise God!
