God speaks to me in images. Often He will give me a picture or a short, internal, video clip as I am praying for someone. Most of the time, He will tell me what it means or give the interpretation to my prayer partner. But what if He doesn’t?
What do you do when a prophetic word doesn’t make sense?
I take a risk. I explain what I have seen, being as accurate and detailed as possible. Then I ask, “Does that mean anything to you?”
One time, I saw the threshold of an open door as we prayed for a young man. The interpretation of an open door seems obvious. But what does a threshold mean? I asked the young man if he knew what it meant.
I began to feel a little silly when I had to explain what a threshold was (English was not his first language). He had no idea what the prophetic word meant. Then I really felt foolish. I assumed that I had heard God wrong.
As we prayed and talked with him, he mentioned that he had accepted a new job recently. He said it was the first time he had prayed for God’s direction in his career. That statement lit a lightbulb in my mind.
God revealed to me what the threshold was about. God was pleased that the young man had prayed about the opportunity before walking through the open door. This was God’s way of honoring him for his prayer of asking.
The young man felt blessed to have God’s accolades and assurances. He was inspired to pray over every decision, even if it looked like the right one.
I felt affirmed in taking the risk, even though I felt silly. The prophetic word that doesn’t make sense to me may be just the encouragement some else needs.
That’s my encouragement to you. Take a risk! Be the mouthpiece of God, even if it doesn’t make sense to you.
