My stepsister, Laura, passed away last week. She was only 52 years old. It was quite a shock to us because we didn’t know she was sick. Laura kept her battle with cancer to herself. So, in addition to mourning her loss, we are mourning the loss of opportunities to support her and love her . . . and say good-bye. I am comforted by the fact that I will see her in heaven.
Yes, God snatched her back from the powers of darkness and transferred her into the Kingdom of His Son. Once Laura gave her allegiance to the Kingdom of God, she was all in. She read the Bible cover to cover in 3 months! It takes me a whole year to do that. Laura soaked up sermons and lessons like a sponge. She filled up reams of notebooks journaling her conversations with God.
Best of all, Laura is a beautiful example of a former captive leading others to freedom. She was so grateful to God that she partnered with Him to deliver others from the dominion of darkness. Laura ran her course; she has finished her race. I am happy for her that she is in the arms of the Savior she loves. And I will see her again, one day.
In the here and now, I am left wondering if I am giving my closest relationships the time and attention they deserve.
