And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. Zechariah 14:16
Father God longs to be with the children that He loves. So, He ordained seven feasts to which He invites us to commune with Him.
The Feast of Tabernacles (September 21, 2021) celebrates God tabernacling among the children of Israel during their forty years of wandering in the wilderness. God’s presence was constantly among them as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. His presence protected them from attacking armies and the creatures of the desert. God provided everything they needed for physical and spiritual life. The Hebrew word for this holiday (Sukkot) means “the time of our rejoicing.” This feast is a party! It is God’s invitation to rejoice with Him for His presence, His protection, and His provision.
Because the theme of God tabernacling among us is echoed in the gospel of John which states “the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us” (1:14), many scholars believe that Jesus was actually born during this feast (not at Christmas). Jesus is “Emmanuel” which means “God among us” – the presence of the Lord dwelling among His people as He did in the wilderness.
Many biblical scholars are expecting Christ Jesus’ second coming to occur on the Feast of Tabernacles as well. Then Jesus will reign as King (Rev. 11:15), and the nations of the earth will come to worship the King and keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
Come, Lord Jesus, Come!
